Laid back London wedding at The House Mill

When Zhi and Stuart first got in touch with me, I knew their wedding was going to be wonderful. They were creating a day that was perfectly special and unique to them. They had found a venue that really spoke to them and was to be the centrepiece to their day - The House Mill in Bromley by Bow. It is one of the most spectacular buildings I have ever photographed a wedding in. An 18th century tidal mill, it is a working museum which has just started to host weddings. The day is run entirely by volunteers - you can't wear heels as the floor is so uneven, you can see the working water wheels, huge wooden beams that seem to be the size of an entire tree, small rickety staircases leading to vaulted rooms and secret passageways with small windows and sunlight streaming through. It was a photographers dream - shapes and light and textures that inspire you everywhere you look. Added to this was a couple so in love and so comfortable with one another, a small group of friends and family who all clearly meant so much to the couple. Zhi and Stuart met while singing in the Imperial college choir and that very choir came and sung beautifully for us during the ceremony. Zhi's gorgeous dress was from one of my favourite stores - Ted Baker, the flowers she collected and arranged herself with the help of some of the volunteers at The House Mill, the favours were handpainted plates all painted by Zhi and all completely unique to each individual - an absolutely amazing feat. And I must just say a huge thankyou to the volunteers who ran the day. It really is just wonderful to think that everyone from The House Mill who helped create this special day for Zhi and Stuart was volunteering their time for free, that is so special.

Zhi and Stuart, it really was the most wonderful day. A London wedding to remember.
